The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (COG) is an independent, nonprofit association that brings area leaders in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia together to address major regional issues and plan for the future. Founded in 1957, COG helps its member governments turn their shared goals into action by coordinating on a wide range of focus areas, including transportation, the environment, community planning and services, and homeland security and public safety. COG’s membership is composed of 24 area jurisdictions and more than 300 local, state, and federal elected officials.
